 Dear friends,

You are an answer to prayer. Not only my prayer for a community in Christ in which we can thrive and live thankful lives of service and praise, but you are also the answer to Jesus’ prayer. Pastor Carolyn will preach this weekend on that prayer of Jesus in John 17. With her stories and deep conviction the Spirit will take us up a path of wonder and discovery. While she prepares and begins to preach, your prayers of support will combine with the power of the Word, and the miracle of preaching will unfold. Do you believe that? Do believe there is such potential in preaching the Word? Then maybe you regard our table fellowship with Christ and the Baptism of water and the Spirit with equal wonder. You are an answer to Jesus’ prayer: that others come to believe in him through the love his disciples proclaim and give away.

We are close to celebrating the other major festival of the church year (besides Christmas and Easter), the power of God’s Spirit poured out upon Jesus’ disciples at Pentecost. This year on Mother’s Day we will also celebrate Pentecost. We invite you to wear red and bring a can of food in a red can or box to place on the front steps. The food will go to the Lutheran Social Services of Nevada pantry—food that is much needed for the feeding of the hungry. If you can help create a job for someone else, even better!

On May 25, four of our confirmation students will affirm their baptismal faith, saying yes to their identities as children of God, brothers and sisters of Christ, their Lord.  Please pray for Annalyse Cordon, Ryan Delaney, Shaunna Lee, and Nick Wesen, as they finish their preparation and begin their new chapter in discipleship. Discipleship is learning on the job with Jesus, and we all need to embrace the responsibility to grow in Christ.
