SERMON TEXT STUDY GROUP

Every Monday morning, a few people gather at 9:00 to think through God’s Word in preparation for preaching.

 

 

Wednesday Bible Study

  Bible Study continues every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.  All are invited.  We are letting the gospel of Matthew speak to us.  This is a Bible study, support group, and an enjoyable morning for all involved.

The Book Club will meet Saturday, May 3rd,  at  10:00 AM at Joyce Cordon's house (341-7992, people can call for directions).  We will be discussing "Life of the Beloved" by Henri

Nouwen.  We haven't decided about the June-July meetings, so hopefully we can get that info by the June newsletter.  We'll make a decision at the May 3 meeting.

Life Line Screening

 

The Lakes Lutheran Church will be hosting Life Line Screening on Thursday, May 22nd.  Life Line Screening will be screening for blockage in the carotid  arteries in the neck, checking the arteries in the legs.  They will offer a third screening  that tests for aneurysms in   the aortic vessel in the abdomen the fourth screening for early detection for osteoporosis.  Informational flyers are in the narthex which gives telephone numbers to register.

Facing Moral Issues

Our congregation previously participated in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's study of sexuality. We listened with respect and with the desire to understand the diverse opinions of each other, which were reflected also in the study material. The ELCA is completing the study process by considering a DRAFT of the document that will be presented in August, 2009, to the Churchwide Assembly. Our congregation will conduct its own review of the material and submit a report to the greater church. If you would like to participate, please read carefully the full draft. You can get a copy online—the links are on our website. If you do not have an internet connection, please ask for a copy in the office.

We will meet  Sunday, May 4th in the conference room right after the 10:30 service, share potluck sandwiches, salads, pizza or whatever, and our sessions will last 1½ hours.  Further sessions will be scheduled by those who attend the first meeting.
