Disaster Relief Hunger 101 Youth Senior Housing Confirmation

Home

Our congregation is investigating an expanded use of our property to include senior housing and assisted living with a continuum of care, as a person's needs increase. Ecumen, an arm of the church, is helping us proceed, making use of Maxfield Research Inc to determine the need and feasibility for such an endeavor. The second study has been completed with great results. You may download the executive summary to read all about it. Because Living Springs Lutheran Church is partnering with us, our costs were greatly reduced. Our congregation met on Sunday, January 18th, to review the study and act on recommendations, including the authorization of a loan to fund the pre-construction planning by Ecumen. Special gifts and loans have been provided to us, along with a grant from the East Valley Thrift Store (in Mesa, AZ).

Julie Murray, from Ecumen, who lived in Las Vegas a few years ago, and Pastor David Olson, from First Lutheran Church, Sand Point, Idaho, came to meet with us, sharing their vision and experience . Luther Park in Sand Point is a similar project and it just opened for residents in November. This collaboration involved First Lutheran Church, Ecumen, Maxfield, Mission Investment Fund, and Thrivent for Lutherans in a three-year process. Our project is on track to follow a similar timeline. Please keep this ministry in prayer.

Attorney Chris Kaempfer of Kaempfer Crowell Renshaw Gronauer & Fiorentino are working with City Councilman  Steve Wolfson and our neighbors to determine the best way to develop our plans. The Las Vegas City Planning Commission met July 9 and gave a strong endorsement of the project, sending it along to the August 5th City Council meeting for final approval of the zone change requests and special use permits.
